The Atworth at Mellody Farms is one of Focus’ most sought-after developments. Located in the gorgeous Chicago suburb, Vernon Hills, it’s an ideal luxury apartment complex far removed from the busy city life.

Focus participated as the general contractor and co-developer for this three-story luxury apartment building. The complex was completed in 2018 and covers an impressive seven-acres. This development is not only beautiful but has a rich history also. Here are 5 must-know things about the Atworth at Mellody Farms:

1. Property Was Originally Part of a Luxurious 1000+ Acre Estate

The rich history of this property goes back over one hundred years. The grounds that this establishment sat on at one point were originally owned by Samuel Insull, founder of General Electric. In 1914, construction of the Cuneo Mansion and Gardens began and was completed in 1916. The beautiful mansion and gardens were designed by legendary Chicago architect, Benjamin Marshall, and gifted to Loyola University in 2009.

The property was bought by John Cuneo Sr., the largest employer in Chicago, in 1937. During this period of time, the land was utilized by companies such as Hawthorn Mellody Farms Dairy, the National Tea Company, and the Cuneo Press.

Until 1971, the Cuneo Estate operated Hawthorne Mellody Farm Dairy on this land. In the farms’ peak years, stars such as Nat King Cole and Dean Martin posed for Hawthorne Mellody Farms Dairy ads. In 2017, the land was acquired by Regency Centers who named the upcoming mixed-use development the Atworth at Mellody Farms in honor of the land’s rich history.

2. Inventive Architecture & Design Elements

The Atworth at Mellody Farms utilizes a unique architectural style. This world-class architecture elevates the development, providing residents with an experience like no other.

This project, from start to finish, was developed with the land’s rich history in mind. The development’s overall design is a harmony of modern-industrial and eclectic architecture with rustic finishes giving a nod to the rich history of the land. The development was constructed using 100+-year-old reclaimed materials from around Chicagoland, further honoring the land’s past significantly.

The development incorporates beautiful unique elements such as murals completed by local artists and students, artisan-crafted benches, and more to promote community building within the space.

3. It’s a Rare Suburban Mixed-Use Development

The Atworth at Mellody Farms is no average suburban development. The mixed-use development style is a traditional urban development style - with mixed-use in reference to a development that is used for one or more uses. The Atworth at Mellody Farms takes this traditional urban style and succesSFully transports it to the suburbs - making resourceful use of the numerous acres of land.

This development incorporates not only over 200 residential homes but also 28 acres of land dedicated to retail, as well as reserving 24 acres of green space. This underutilized land now features a variety of both national and regional storefronts including:

  • Whole Foods
  • REI
  • Nordstrom Rack
  • And more

The Atworth at Mellody Farms is also dedicated to supporting local businesses and is, therefore, home to a variety of local shops. The facility provides close access to localities such as Kuma’s Corner, Dailey Method, Andreas Hogue Salon, and much more.

4. Offers a Wide Range of Luxury Resort-Style Amenities

Not only is this development conveniently located but it features a variety of luxury amenities onsite. The residences feature state-of-the-art features including high-quality interior finishes, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and in-unit laundry.

In addition to these fine features, luxury amenities include:
