Focus has been selected to act as the general contractor for Marquette’s recently announced apartment renovation project located at 1926 West Harrison Street in Chicago’s Medical District neighborhood.
The existing 18-story building will be extensively renovated to include 272 units and amenity spaces on the first and nineteenth floors. When complete, the project will total over 249,000 SF and will add a 19th floor amenity deck featuring an outdoor lounge with seating areas, grilling stations and unobstructed views of Chicago’s skyline.
In order to make the 19th floor amenity possible, the Focus team will extend an existing elevator core by installing structural steel in and around the top of the current elevator shaft, cutting the ceiling and roof slab for the taller elevator shaft and creating space for car mechanism to be added.
Designed by Brininstool + Lynch, the project also revitalizes units and adds a second amenity floor on the ground level which includes a fitness studio, community kitchen and private conference rooms.
The original structure built in 1962 includes a unique combination of exterior precast concrete columns which make up the building’s façade. As part of the renovation, portions of the exterior precast will be removed and replaced with new floor to ceiling windows, modernizing the exterior of the project.
Demolition began in March, 2020 and Focus anticipates the project will be completed in early 2021.
