More than a Race

21 June 2017

(June 21st- Chicago, IL) On June 15th, eighteen Focus team members joined more than 2,000 participants to take part in the annual Gibbons 5k run and 3K walk along the lake shore. Runners and walkers braved the heat to benefit the Leukemia Research Foundation, in order to raise funds to support a search for a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma and blood cancers of all types.

For over 20 years, the Gibbons 5K Run and 3K Walk has been a staple summer event in downtown Chicago and has raised over $1.3 million in donations for the LRF over the last two decades. Runners and walkers enjoyed classic views of the Chicago skyline, with the race starting at the southern end of Chicago’s Grant Park and looping along the lakeshore’s north to south path, passing the Buckingham Fountain, Museum Campus, the Art Institute of Chicago and Millennium Park.

The event also featured a Heroes of Hope tent, a space dedicated to honoring blood cancer patients and survivors, offering an opportunity for those touched by the disease to gather. The Heroes of Hope also consisted of running/walking teams of those with personal experience battling the disease and offered a platform for them to tell their stories; those stories are available on the Gibbons website.

Focus CEO, Tim Anderson all placed third in their respective age groups. This year was Focus’ first year participating in the event.
