29 March 2019

Regency Centers, Focus and a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) hosted Representative Brad Schneider, Illinois’ Congressman for the 10th District, at The Atworth on Thursday. Representative Schneider participated in a tour of the new residential development and the surrounding Mellody Farm retail center.

Joined by a group of the new community’s merchants, property stakeholders, and management team the Congressman took time to listen to concerns from his constituents and answered questions. The discussion centered on the impacts of residential and retail real estate on the surrounding economies. “I was impressed by Congressman Schneider’s sincerity in understanding the hurdles which developers face when engaging with a project like Mellody Farm,” said Focus CEO and Founder, Tim Anderson. “His genuine consideration of the economic impacts which radiate from an investment through mixed-use development was encouraging.”

Mellody Farm is situated on what once was the Hawthorne Mellody Farms Dairy, a 53.5-acre site consisting of farm land adjacent to a forest preserve that sat as a soy bean field. The project, as executed by the Mellody Farm partnership, created 260 multifamily homes and activated nearly 28 acres of land for retail while maintaining over 24 acres of green space. The project has been widely accepted by the community with both retail and residential lease rates and job and economic growth rates high.
